Summer Tour 2007

Day Twelve: Wednesday, June 20, 2007

We started the day right, with a visit to Dunkin Donuts! We just don't understand why we don't have those in California. The original glazed donuts and the Munchkins are the best! Not to mention their coffee! It's exquisite!

We then went on to Bridgeport to the Barnum Museum, home to artifacts from the life and career of P.T. Barnum, creator of the "Greatest Show on Earth." We were greeted in the lobby by a stuffed elephant. Not plush: stuffed. As in big dead elephant in the middle of the room. Ick.

When we got over the shock of that macabre encounter, we made our way through the rest of the museum which, although small, was fascinating. It included personal belongings of Tom Thumb and his wife, Lavinia, as well as many relics of other "side show" type attractions. There were also exhibits about the history of Bridgeport and Barnum's connection to the city.

After the Barnum Museum, we visited the Discovery Science Museum, also in Bridgeport. This was an interactive, hands-on science museum, which featured lessons in sound, light, electricity, and the physics of toys. Although the planetarium show was a bit of a letdown, we still enjoyed the museum and are glad we finally made the time to visit it. As you can see from our pictures, though, they still have some baby-proofing to do.

We had dinner at Ruby Tuesday and came home to spend one more evening with Craig and Sue and the kids. It has been a wonderful visit and we will miss them, but we will be glad to see Ken and Sondra and their family tomorrow. We're excited about meeting their new baby!
