Summer Tour 2005

Day Thirteen: July 13, 2005: A Grrreat Time in Battle Creek

Breakfast is reported to be the most important meal of the day. This morning we didn't just eat breakfast, we learned all about it at Kellogg's Cereal City USA in Battle Creek, Michigan. Through models, videos, and detailed explanations, we were shown the production processes behind some of our favorite morning treats. The good news is that, even after knowing how they are made, we still find them appetizing. So go ahead and enjoy your breakfast tomorrow! Kala and Andy are looking out for you.

Full of history, science, fun, and free samples (we just love food factory tours), this is an attraction we recommend highly to anyone passing this way.

After a long drive (and a free trip to the Canadian immigration office — people, remember your passports!), we arrived in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where we had a beautiful room waiting for us, courtesy of Andy's Aunt Sheila and Uncle Barry. We are staying two nights in an enormous suite on the falls side of the luxurious Renaissance Fallsview Hotel. We have booked a tour of the area for tomorrow (not too early — our stay includes a free breakfast brought right to our room).

Tonight, we relaxed and had a bite to eat in the lounge, where we met travelers from all over the world. We used our upcoming anniversary as an excuse for behaving like honeymooners, and all who saw us were eager to congratulate us. It seems everyone likes a good love story.

Having sampled some of the delicious fare offered by our hotel kitchen, we returned to our room, confident in our ability to resist the $6.50 (Canadian, but still...) jar of gumdrops that had been left to tempt us. We are eager to peel back the fluffy down comforter and snuggle in for the night, and we relish the idea of not rushing out and hitting the highway early in the morning. We're not even setting the alarm clock tonight!
