A bunch of people from TX promised me scans of photos from
the ddial convention down there, and never delivered..
It's nice to see someone doing something for ddial..
 Great site.

Your page is really cool.  The annotated buffers are quite
entertaining and are definate must-reads for anybody
who was a former ddialer in CT.  I still like the Do
You Remember intro.  You might want to add in something
about Dave Feda.  It is possible that someone might hit
your page and know where he is now.  The graphics look
great.  Glad you finally put up a webpage despite the
powerful urges not to add to the great numbers of home
pages that are of interest to nobody.

Howdy!  My old ddial friend J.I. pointed me to www.ddial.com
and I saw the link to your site.

This is enlightenment from Ddial!

I feel like I am tripping down memory lane, all those old
names and the fun times.  Certainly I credit our Ddial
with 2 very important friendships I made from people I
 met there (J.I. and Madcap).

It's great to see that you are keeping those memories
together and intact.  I looked at the conversations you
had buffered, but alas, they were all AFTER my time.
During college, I took a break from computer chatting,
but now with irc, I find I am addicted as ever.  And
STILL find it a great way to meet people... of course
now those people are scattered all over the world.

Hope all is well with you!

Hello,

You know, I actually looked for you once.  In case you are
wondering, Kumquoto doesn't turn up very often in the
search engines (actually, it didn't turn up at all).
I even tried newsgroups.  Zilch.  I mean, I was able
to find Hawk when his handle turned up in a usenet
camping discussion.  I did try looking for Sibley
once too (found his page today).

Well, I was at work today and was on a site called diversi-
communications or something boring like that and I
thought "Gee, (I didn't really think 'Gee') I wonder
if there is a ddial website".  And there it was with
 your URL included.

In case you you havent figured it out, it is I (removing
mask) J.I.!  Now I just have to hope this isnt a 5
year old dead email address that i'm sending this
 message to.

I laughed my ASS OFF. And the people sitting around me in the
cluster thought I was nuts. Especially the opening page...
because yes, I remember. (Remember when... you could link

I'm not sure why but one night I started thinking about my
ddial years nearly 10 years ago. I just punched in
www.ddial.com and went in search of veteran ddialers in
the Fairfield cty. area. Your name is familiar to me,
but I stopped using ddial after the summer of 1989. On
the computer, my handle was "Krys" or "Krystal," and my
number was #005, one of the first people on System
 Dialer's, then Jim Stockla's, then Gumby's, then Dooky's
 site (if I remember correctly).

Anyways, this is a shout out from one of the rare ddial
chicks. Please write back and tell me that I'm not
 crazy.

Bye,

I actually keep in touch with a number of former ddialers
if this might help jog your memory--Dr. Surge, Palladin,
Bullwinkle (Laissez Faire, etc.), Dealer--and Sue Smith
was my mother (how twisted is it to have your mother
be a part of your adolescent years!). I actually dated
Jason (Dooky) for a few weeks my Senior year in high
 school (1988).

Anyways, I have already been to your website and enjoyed
my trip down memory lane. Thanks for making the
 experience so fun!

Hey! Kumquota! Hey it's me Jim Silicloner! I swear!
This is so cool! Or |<@@\_ as I think you guys wrote
 in the good olde days!

I still have d-dial in my blood I couldn't believe I
found your site. I'm going to explore every bit of it
and check out the links. Proof it's me? Check out my
 crappy homepage at http://jimstock.home.pipeline.com/
It was my first attempt and I threw it up in a weekend.
I was planning to open a site www.cybercomedy.com for
stand-up comics but I've decided to go back into comedy
instead. Make people laugh by talking, make people
laugh by typing, what's the difference? I talk about
 as slow as I type!

Good luck and keep in touch. I live in NYC now.

Andy-

Been quite a while, hasn't it?! Good to see that someone
has put forth the time and effort to create a website
to remember D-Dial. I'm also honored that my handle
made the cut as one of the "example handles" on your
page. Considering it's a synonym for feces, that's
 pretty heady stuff.

Those buffers are fantastic.. I don't think I ever
knew Ted but if I could track down a working c64 I'd
have a good number of buffers from back to 1987 that I
 could add.

By the way, I never dated Krystal. She's a delusional
psychotic and I have no idea where she got that from.

Anyway, since college I've moved from CT to California
and have taken up residence in San Francisco. Much
like CT except there's things to do, the weather's
always nice, and my parents can't bother me when I'm
up late on the computer typing. Come to think of it
 it's nothing like Connecticut.

Keep up the good work on the site - I'm sure there's
other silent observers out there - and drop me a line
 when you get a chance.

ta ta for now..

Hi. I came across your page when searching for EMPIRE on
the net. Your DDial page said something about it...
 Do you remember? Wow.

I wrote Empire for the C-64 back when I was in like 9th
grade. I did it in like a weekend (what would now be
considered Beta version 1.0 .... haha). I really only
talk to like 1 person who remembers EMPIRE. Never
went on D-Dial. But your page brough back memories.
I remember 300 baud. Believe me. And C-Net boards for
the c-64 in Cleveland from 1983 to maybe 1986. And
Zork. Infocom in general. Crazy aint it?

About all the memorbilia I have is photos of my car which was
wrecked at a ddial get together. (Long story).

I was actually ddialing BEFORE oOo. There was another
ddial running over in easton, by a guy named System
Dialer I belive, but I cant remember the name of the
system. I do remember going to the Radio Shack in
monroe (now moved) to buy my password from Krystals
mom Sue. Most of the ddialers who moved from oOo to the
newer ddialers will probably remember me. Some of the
names that come to mind that I can remember are J.I.,
Hawk, Dr. Surge, Dealer, Centerfold, Jim S, Anaconda,
Terminator, Big Red, and Happy Harley (scotty). I also
can think of a few names that I cant put handles to,
such as Greg Mortensen, Colleen and Dan Reilly (Dan was
a passanger in my car wreck), and also a bunch of faces
which I cant put names or handles to. About the last
ddial meet I was involved in was a trip to Wet n Wild
down in NJ, and I drove a carfull of people. I belive
that might have been from Johns ddial, but I really
 cant remember.

I knew John Sibley too before he moved to NYC, in fact he
bought a computer from me probably 5-6 years ago, but I
havent seen him in ages either. I did call his DDial a
few times too, but didnt really have time anymore at
 that time in my life.

I wonder what the possibility of organizing a reunion would
be? Do you have information on other Ddialers who dont
have email? I would definatly attend one if I had a
few weeks notice of the date.

Checked out all the D-Dial stuff on your web site, and all
the memories have (fortunately or not) come rushing
back. Hanging out at Phil's house with his guns after
some of them got thrown out of Back to the Future II
(I think that was the movie). Anne (who I barely knew)
being at my junior prom (I forget who with -- I'd have
to dig out the photos). D-Dial softball in Monroe. For
someone who was never on D-Dial, I sure know a lot of
D-Dialers.... It was neat to check out John Sibley's
site -- saw RHPS a few months ago and the Riff-Raff
here is awful compare to Sibley.

I saw Vin Duva this past 4th of July -- He's still in
Trumbull on Edison Rd. (He was the person who first
showed me D-Dial.) He works for Oxford Health Care, so
he might have an e-mail account through there.

About the Ted Buffers: The scary thing, I actually went to
high school with him! (He graduated a year ahead of
me). I've only made it through the attack collie one --
I'll check the others later. You forgot the story about
Ted flying a helicopter UPSIDE-DOWN in Vietnam! (I was
there when he discussed it. Those of us who knew better
laughed at him incessantly.) This is going to sound odd
-- but for a cranky, bitter, compulsive liar with a
mean streak and half a brain, Ted wasn't such a bad
guy. I ran into him a couple years ago. At the Black
Rock Castle in Bridgeport. At the time, he was on leave
from his service in the 82nd Airborne in N.C. (I think
that's where he said). I didn't know whether to believe
 him, laugh, or cry.

More later. Hope things are well.

Geez,

I remember you being onlione, but I don't know if you
remeber me or not. I was Lethal Dose(most recent),
M0sher d00d(next to most recent with "Steve Harris" as
a mood swing handle change), and even a long, long time
ago when I first started on oOo I think I went by
 Anubis.

I hung out with Stormshadow (Sean), Artic Fox (Pat), Sn00py,
Anaconda (?), Thrasher (Alex), Dealer (Dan), Paladin
 (Rob), Mysteryman (Brian?), Raf (Raf).

Stormshadow and I held a party in the woods with some of
these people and called it Sloshfest. Snoopy wrote an
article in a DDIAL news letter about this party and
just recently I found the clipping in a scrap book.
It's funny thinking back about all of this. Thanks for
the WEB page... I had a lot of fun times on-line with
my C-64 at 300 baud during those years...

I have a web page, but it's not finished... When it's done
I'll be sure to like it to yours...

Wow.

I stumbled across your page via a link from ddial.com. I
couldn't believe what I had found. I have spent
literally the last 2 hours reading all the logs and
guest comments. I haven't seen some of these names
and handles in 11 years or so.

To introduce myself; my name is Josh. In the late 80's I
was on Madagascar under the handle Excalibur, user#
 082. I can't begin to fathom the number of hours I
spent chatting on DDIAL. I remembered your handle
right away (hard to forget) and a few others, but
some I thought I had long forgotten. For some reason
the other day, I started thinking about DDIAL, and
hit www.ddial.com . Actually, what made me remember
it was www.textfiles.com which holds a virtual
history of the BBS scene in the 80's. Check it out
 some time.

I am still living in CT, and I work in Milford as a Unix
Systems Manager. It was very interesting to see what
everyone wound up doing with themselves.

You've done a great job summarizing the DDIAL's that
existed in CT. I just the other day registered on

hello Andy...just wanted to drop you an email and say
hello! I'm an old school ddialer circa 1985-1992 days

guys at one point in time..haha...

Anyway- I think its cool what your doing with your
site and dedicating so much to the past greatness
we used to have with so little baud rate. I've
been doing AOL for the last few years and have stuck
with one chat room and started doing "meetings" with

Hey Andy,

(something for your guestbook)

Dr. Surge here!

Remember me? If I remember correctly I'm the guy
that got you into this whole scene in the first
place... I think I gave you your first modem when we
worked together teaching at a summer camp!

I was on d-dial from the early to mid-years, what I
would call "the golden years" of d-dial. It was
around the time a 300 baud modem still cost $100-200
so it was a small close-knit group.

I was a regular on Jim Silicloners D-Dial, and later
 Dooky's.

I remember going to the Radio Shack in Monroe to buy a
password from "Sue Smith" (Krystal's Mom) for $5 a
month. She would cross it off a giant printout... I
 think I was number "037".

People I remember: Bullwinkle (AKA Grim), Lord Paladin
(Pally), Dealer (Dealer Dan), Krystal, Michelle
 (Krystal's Sister), Sue (Krystal/Michelles Mother),
CJK (Cracker Jack Kid), Saturdays Child
(Sat/Saturday), Domino (Sat's friend), Dooky, JI,
Patriot, Metalikatz, Sorcerer (Sorcy), Dos Boss,
 Archimedian, Tringlomein, Lightning Bug, Colleen,
Angel, System Dialer (SD), HighTower, Queenie, Jim
Silicloner, Snoopy, Jendar XBane, Claw (Clawsie),
Melissa, Tanis Half-Elven, the list goes on.

I still remember coming home from school and getting
right on D-Dial -- when a super popular song came on
everyone would shout out that the title and the
station. One of the ones I remember most was "Here
 I Go Again" by Whitesnake.

Anyone still remember the local BBS scene back then? I
ran quite a few Commodore 64 bulletin boards that I
had written... I guess the most popular thing I did
was "Intergalactic Wrestling", where members could
make wrestlers and compete against each other.
There were tons of cheezy "6485" and "All American
BBS" systems for "trading warez". Cracker Jack Kid
has his custom "Zork" style BBS where you had to
move around rooms and solve a mystery of some
sort... and Dos Boss (and a few others) ran "The
Proving Grounds", some kind of Dungeons & Dragons
 RPG software.
